Youth clean up the Godavari bathing ghat

With the Karthika holy dips approaching, the Gadilanka youth association organised a clean-up at the Godavari bathing ghat. From six in the morning, young people and members of women's self-help groups collected plastic covers, bottles and puja waste from the steps and the river bank.

The waste was taken away by the panchayat tractor, and two dustbins were placed at the ghat. "The river is like a mother to us — please don't throw plastic," the organisers told villagers. They plan to repeat the drive on the first Sunday of every month.
